About STEM Kings & Queens

We believe that innovation from diverse minds will be necessary in order to provide a better future for the next generation. Our organization is turning this belief into a reality by cultivating these minds through access and representationaccess to STEM and entrepreneurship education along with representation of the diverse minds that have shaped these fields in the past. At STEM Kings & Queens, we create science, technology, engineering, math, and entrepreneurship workshops for K-12 students in the context of their real-world applications, while highlighting the contributions of historically underrepresented people in those fields. Our work at STEM Kings & Queens serves as a primary point of access as well as representation to guide and empower our students, while embracing their unique sense of creativity. Ultimately, our mission is to increase the presence of individuals in STEM and entrepreneurial fields, that come from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

Our Founder

STEM Kings & Queens was founded in 2019 by Kayla Miller, a social impact entrepreneur and Capital Region native. After graduating from Central Connecticut State University with a degree in Biomolecular Sciences, she recognized her passion for encouraging underrepresented students to pursue STEM professions. During her time at CCSU, she noticed a lack of diversity in the courses for her major. In addition, she didn't have any examples of STEM professionals that looked like her throughout her K-12 years. STEM Kings & Queens was developed as a response to these experiences.
